WHAT IS A CONTACT LENS FITTING?

A contact lens fitting is the first step to wearing contact lenses.
With today's technology and advances in contact lens design, contact lenses are now an option for patients who could never wear them before. Today's technology also means there are more choices than ever before:

•Daily disposables
•Two-week disposables
•One-month disposables
•Yearly wear
•Colored contacts for light or dark eyes
•Contact lenses for Astigmatism
•Contact lenses for Keratoconus
•Contact lenses for Bifocal wearers

Our goal is to help you wear contact lenses successfully. This is a two-step process which helps us determine which type of contact lens is best for you.

The doctor will first complete a comprehensive eye health examination.

•The doctor will check for diseases such as hypertension, UV damage, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy.
•The doctor will determine your prescription for glasses.
•The doctor will test eye teaming and eye tracking; how well your eyes work together.

Next, the doctor will complete a contact lens diagnostic evaluation and fitting. There is an additional fee associated with these tests and measurements.

•Measure the curvature of your cornea to determine the optimum base curve (curvature) of contact lens for you
•Determine the correct power of contact lenses to optimize our vision. (your contact lens prescription is different from your glasses prescription.)
•Evaluate the performance of the contact lens on each eye: vision, coverage, centration, movement, tear exchange, and stability.
•Perform a contact lens specific health assessment to assure your eyes are able to wear contact lenses.

The health assessment is important to reduce the possibility of contact lens related diseases such as: corneal ulcers, neovascularization, giant papillary conjunctivitis, corneal edema, infiltrates,and abrasions.

Each year, at the time of your annual eye health examination, the doctor re-evaluates all of the conditions and specifications assessed in your initial contact lens evaluation and fitting. This insures optimum vision and comfort.
